you could put it back for sure.
don't believe everything one person says, not even us. We can be very reliable, but it's always best to cross reference. also don't be afraid of learning by experience, it's not always pass/fail but it's not all in the books

could be the zebs. best to put it back in the box. the parents may still accept it. keep checking on it to see if it's crop is full/empty. is it a gouldian? if so you may kill it by feeding it insectivore, they do not usually eat insects when breeding.

Kinda damned if you do damned if you dont in situations like this . Being in the aviary so much might put everyone off their game / not checking could lead to birds not getting help ...
Putting it back might do the trick /putting it back and the parents might chuck it out ....so hard to know what to do .
The person who keeps finches with all the information .........well perhaps you should take their advice with a grain of salt from now on as they have been wrong twice now , no strike threes .
Anyhoo I wish you luck and sorry I cant help you out more .

Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

Hey thanks Deb...........your right about the "friend"..............I joined the forum to learn more..........so this is where I will ask the questions...........I have found out about Paswells handfeeding mixture from Jaybird so will try to get some today.........you know I remember many years ago that my Mother had budgies.........I recall she fed some babies on arrowroot biscuits in water if they were thrown from the nest........not sure if that would work with finches tho.........We are taking the zebs out today nest and all........I know this is about learning........but it still makes me sad........as of this morning the baby is still in the nest with mum.......so heres hoping......... I do so thankyou for your help.........I guess I just panicked yesterday as this was the first live baby I had found...........cheers Deb
