Oh my dog has gotten her paws stuck in the traps before but the traps we use are just plastic so it doesn't really hurt humans or dogs and stuff. It just kills mice

Upside down mousetrap are the best thing to stop a dog digging, most of the time. Set them, gently place it upside down were the dog has been digging, cover it over with dirt & wait. Scares the hell out of them when it jumps out of the dirt at them. Worked on all my dog except a bull x kelpie, couldn't care less about them, he'd just keep going, had to lay wire & peg it down & he still gave it his all to dig it up.

At the moment in Vic we are having a mouse plauge, I've found that bunnings sells a little of mouse attractent that you put on your traps (suposed to be better than peanut butter) but I found that peanut butter worked just as good for cheaper. I now use bait stations at either end of my Avery and in side it too, I found talon to be a good brand coz the dog ir birds can't get inside to get the poision. I keep the bait up even if there is no sign of the pests. Have been told if u use bait to keep water up high, they recon that if the mice eat bait it can dilute the effects of the poison and might not kill them don't know how true this is.

I have tried traps, but in a plaque you cant have enough to cover the mice numbers. I use tomcat brand mouse bait and place in bait stations in and out of the aviary. I dont think it is possible at the moment to over zealous with baits.

Dad has been put onto something lately from Rentokil. Bromakil its called and is a liquid and you add it to some seed and have i very wet as they will drink it as well. He can get it in 500ml bottle. Check around first if you are interested.

Seems the mice are taking over most parts of the country at the moment . Good luck folks .

i got over 35 mice behind my aviarys and in the garage last night. id go out every 5 minutes and all the traps would have a mice in them its crazy

That time of the year Deb, plus with all this moisture around there looking for free, dry lodgings, with a continual banquet.

Nothing like a flood or a drought to bring out a mouse plague. The droughts back in '83-'84 were shocking out around Trangie, Nyngan ect. We would lay a 44 on it's side throw a handful of grain in the bottom, sit on a hay bale in the dark, wait for about 5 min & stand it back up. nothing to get 20 - 30 mice each time, then came out a length of pipe & let the bashing begin.

After the last floods around Mudgee I remember the most the kids caught was 17 in one night ....had to put them to bed though , I offered $1 for each mouse .

Not as costly as the 10 cents per cabbage moth , little buggers were out the with tennis rackets squatting them.

Most stores ( big ) around here stink of mouse pee and dampness after the floods . Cant be good.
