red/blue faced parrot finch..

Just wondering about the difference between these 2 types.which is preferable the price seems sort of similar .

I much prefer reddies, the bluies seem distant and slightly rough looking while reds are happy and the literally bounce with excited energy

well..went down and ended up getting a pair of jacqurinis and yellow beak hecks as the lady thought it would be better not to put red faced in with my tanninbars for now ,she said they are getting more red faced all the time so I thought I would get another time and give a bit more thought as to where I will keep them..the jacqurinis are cute tiny things they look like a sparrow and will be good with the double bars..very gentle birds im told .I realy want the red face but if they realy need their own cage I will have to think about that cost as well.in a couple of weeks hopefully
reading what nice birds they are im kind of wishing I had got them now but prob best as it would be awful if they crossed with the tanninbars ,Im thinking if I put them in with the zebs /societys/stars they may be ok but its a bit crowded in there

How lucky you are to have such a variety of finches available . Out here we have to wait for a show/sale to find those types of birds .

yes it is fun but I realy must give it a rest ..too much temptation .It is good to see all the types though and I dont think Iv ever seen a finch show near me .There is a budgie group nearby I think but thats it ....
Im very pleased with the hecks anyway as I had a single boy who called and called day and night and he has a new lease onlife now

try to keep all parrot finches apart. you probably heard this 10 times already, red are good blues are great , have bred many over the years and if you have a good pair they will breed well. over here (wa) the tanimbars would be more delicate than the other two .. hope all goes well....pete

instead of getting your birds from pet shops give wattle aviaries a try, there's a link to the web site on here somewhere.
you should be able to get better prices and hopefully some quality birds

after bensonsams comments and all the others I was regretting not getting them so shopped on budget and got pair today .so far they have been reserved and no trouble. one got a shock when he fell in the water but soon got over it,dont think it was used to a take away sized dish of water ..they are very interested in the big correllas ,dont think they have seen one before

you said that you turned your cage away from the light, does this mean you are keeping these birds in small cages rather than aviaries?
Why are the PF frightened of the correllas/ are they in the same enclosure?

I have about 40 gouldians-have just moved them to a large aviary outside in Cairns. I have only lost 2 chicks in 3 years. both were frail from the start. Otherwise I have found these birds very hardy, however they definitely do well in a large aviary with plenty of brush in my experience. I know plenty breed them in cabinets and they do fine so they must be pretty tough.
