Thanks Wikipaedia for this.........
Tony Silva (born 1960) is an American ornithologist and aviculturist that has authored several books on parrots, hundreds of articles and was curator of birds at Tenerife's Loro Parque, the largest parrot park in the world. He has been heavily involved in the efforts to save the Spix's Macaw.[1]
[edit] Smuggling
In 1996, he was arrested and charged with conspiracy to violate wildlife and customs laws, and tax evasion. Silva initially plead guilty but then immediately attempted to withdraw his plea of guilt and take the case to trial. The court denied the motion to withdraw the guilty plea due to an abuse of discretion.[2] Silva was subsequently sentenced to 82 months in prison and fined $100,000.[3][4] The smuggling involved several threatened species of South American parrots, including Hyacinth Macaws and Vinaceous Amazons.[4]
Back to me now .....
Hmmm so he is still pulling royalties from his books and articles ?

One cannot help but wonder what was his motivation for smuggling the birds ?
Loro Parque is famous around the world for it's fine collection of exotic birds and the work they do in saving endangered species .

You all know me. I write articles, etc.
if in 20 years time I am convicted of smuggling does that make my previous work any less credible?

Dunno Jay that question involves deep thought and I just haven't got that in me at the mo.
Anyhoo ..what was his motivation ? Was it greed ? Was it an overwhelming desire to own these birds OR was it a way of continuing the breeding programmes that he was so passionate about ???
Is he a saint or a sinner ? Id like to know more about what possessed a man that loves birds so much to do such a thing ...

Heres a saying for you Jay.
You are what your precieved to be.
Meaning no matter what the actual truth is, what the person thinks of you in his eyes is the truth to them.It is a awful fact that people are prepared to judge someone without all the facts. So in the case above A person may have done the right thing 99% of the time. But may be judged on 100% of his work buy the 1 % they may know about.
So to answer your question. You are in good stead atm.So dont smuggle birds and you will always have 100% credibility.
