You may have something hanging around the house or garden that would do the job too. Check out these pics.

Am only new to this caper as well but have had 2 pairs of gouldians this year favor the same cockateil type nest box. One pair (Red Heads) raised 5 babies in the box and within a week or 2 of the babies leaving the nest, a pair of black heads took uo residence and are now sharing the duties of looking after 6 eggs. Both pairs had the choice of cockateil boxes, 2 types of cane finch nests, wooden finch boxes (the type with the wider narrow entrance) as well as budgie boxes. I had 1/3 filled the cockateil boxes with lucerne chaff (also have horses lol) and they did the rest.

Gouldians are, in nature, opportunistic nesters. They do not have the choices that we give them in captivity, a hollow horizontal log is not built to specifications. Many breeders swear by different designs from small baskets and hollowed out gourds to standard finch boxes( with or without verandas). One breeder with a huge planted aviary stocked with over 100 gouldians and some of the smaller macaws and other birds had gouldians nest colony style in the bottom of the macaws box (45cm sq X 80cm high, one nest in each corner. The bottom line is give them plenty of choices as long as it is dark with a smallish hole, that is what seems to attract them. Always supply plenty of nesting material.
