Has anyone got any advice for keeping Gouldians in cooler areas. I am from Camden in NSW and we get quite a few frosts in winter. Was thinking about getting some Gouldians but don't want them to freeze

buy some local bred gouldians and house them in aviaries that are draft free and they should do well.

i know gouldian breeders in cool climates that have to break a layer of ice off there water bowls each morning in the peak of winter.

A very sunny aviary facing north and wind protection. I know someone who gets temperatures of -6 deg in winter and he has to crack the ice off their water to give them a drink  and he has no problems.
Edit------ Seems to be an echo on here.

Yep . Local birds . draft free housing and sunshine .

Your local bird club will give you names of breeders I believe there a few around Narellan advertising on Pet Pages.com.au ...thats fairly local to you.

I live in a fairly cold place where temps can get to minus 7 and my goulds go perfectly fine but I also do have protection from the wind.

the other morning i had a look at my gouldians on my way to work and they were all seeking shelter in the nest boxes... at a start i freaked out searching the aviary bottom looking for dead birds but there was none... i tapped on the side of the cage to watch three heads pop out of the nest box they are smart birds and will go where they are warm

Haha I've never seem my birds do that yet, maybe they havnt realized that it's warm inside the nest boxes yet, they normally just huddle up together. How cold does it get in your area????
