Just the Pea Beu, any other active constituates, or activators will harm the birds. The low allergenic odourless can be sprayed directly on the bird, or even misted in a covered cage.

An old remedy was to place the affected bird in a paper bag, spray some pea beau or carbaryl powder into the bag so the bird had tho breathe it in. In the case of carbaryl powder they shook the bag containing the carbaryl and the bird.....
... those that survived the treatment were cured!!!!
I'm sure VR1ton can suggest a way that he has found successful yet relatively safe. Personally, I prefer more recent methods but if it works for you...

I sprayed some fly spray around in my shed back in summer when I had a few moths and I will never spray it around again near the birds. I didn't lose any birds but plenty of them were rolling around on the floor for a while. Nuns seemed particularly sensitive.

i've used the low allergenic peabeau in my aviaries with no troubles at all. obviously removed seed and water while i was spraying though. have never used any other brand.
