So Im sitting here feeling helpless . Just took the dogs out for a pee and the birds are all over the place , obviously something has spooked them which never happens ( these birds are bomb proof )so I dont know what the best thing to do is .
To go near them to check on them has them crashing into the wire , best I could think of was to put some lights on to hopefully get them back to their roosting spots .
Worked on all but 1 aviary and I now have Lorrikeets hanging upside down in the open part of the aviary.
What do others do when the birds have had a spook in the night .?

Same as what you have already done. Lost 3 Gouldians with broken necks in 6 days a few weeks back
. In our case it's the neighbour's cat as the culprit. We are shifting soon or I'd be putting up that mini electric fence discussed here a while back.
Giving them some light is about all you can do after the fact.
I tried to find a suitable solar powered night light so that they had some small amount of light all the time but without success (as all such lights had the panel built in and the aviary roof would prevent sufficient charge for the light).

i have turned the veranda lights on, but have also used a big torch my Oldman takes camping and fishing with, lights up the aviary and they all seem to find the perches then i slowly walk away and hope they settle.

No casualties this morning on the bird side however must have been a rough night for the male Musk Lorry that was hanging upside down most of the night because today he wanted to rip my eyes out YEP cranky bugger didnt want me in the aviary one bit.

Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

Glad they are all right Deb. If you have cat problems Malibu get a Jack Russell. They love cats - not.
