I'm glad there's hope for the future - I thought (wrongly) that this was largely an old man's game or at least one that was an artifact of a bygone era. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

I think in some ways, the impression that it's an old person's game is as a result of the demograpic you usually get at avicultural society meetings and the like - which tends to skew towards the older end of the spectrum. I would suggest this is because most are retirees or semi-retired and are better able to make time for meetings, etc. Many of us have other commitments such as work or kids, and those of us under 17 (or even older) are reliant on others for transportation, all of which makes attending such functions challenging to work into our schedules.
Which is why this place is of such inestimable value - because it provides a forum where we can network and share information unencumbered by the tyrranies of distance and busy schedules.
