my java's have laid 4-6 eggs in the last week and i had a peek in the box and the finch's have destroyed the nest and layed the eggs along the wall side by side? they then used the nesting materials to half cover the eggs?
this is strange, usually they lay the eggs in a round nest.. they are still laying on the eggs all huddling up in the box to keep warm but its just strange and a first lol ???
strange nesting

I have had java's take nests apart before eggs are laid and I've assumed it was other birds. Are your pairs housed individually? The eggs getting pusted to the side could be just pure physics they roll and the birds can not pick them up unlike the nesting materials. If you can identify the nesting pair remove all the other birds and hope it works this time. Don't let your hen lay more than 3 clutches per year even if they aren't raised by them as it weakens the bird.

Hi,
i only have two hens and one cock. they seem to only lay one clutch a year so far but that might change as i think i got them a bit to young to start breeding properly? as they went threw moulting stages!.
they have now removed all the nesting material out and the eggs are cuddled up together in one corner instead of a row. but they dont seem to be laying on them much. i had a look and used the torch technique to see if the eggs are fertile and i think a few are as they seem to have something inside and a few seems to be hollow and pure white/transparent. i have two nesting boxes in the flight cage and they have layed 6 more eggs in that one but my hen with the pink leg band is always on that nest, my girl with the purple leg band is layin on the nest but not as much as the other hen?.. is she neglecting the eggs? should i move her out with the nest or should i leave it cuz when there was only them eggs in one box the two girls were laying in there so i dont know if the pink leg band girl has eggs in there two?
i think after the eggs hatch if they are fertile i might move the two hens seperate and get another cock to breed so that way i will have two pairs! and separate!
thanks for you post
