If the water is clean then yes however drowning is a possibility if the water is too deep.
Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

I would find out what the plants are, find out if they are poisonous and remove or keep them accordingly.

Dp you use any chemicals in the pond? Because that's not very good for them.

Nathan, still stagnet or otherwise finches will do what they want to do and what they are used to. I have a pond and some water conatiners in my avairy and different finches will drink from each, eg shy ones at the pond and dumb old gouldians at the water conatainer. If each isnt monitored or cleaned regulalry (only you will know how often) then you may have problems down the track with disease. Having said that I can have clean water in each and the finches will go to a fresh puddle in the aviary if I am cleaning things - hardly sanitised but that is what finches do. I think at best so long at the water is clean it really donest matter them too much if it has been sitting all week. I have seen Crimsons up north drinking out of little bits of water in tree forks, on top of drums, in car tyres and even in the water holders under pots. One of the best examples I saw about three years ago at a farm up north was crimsons and bullies drinking from a puddle of water down the hill from an old homestead, when I enquired where the puddle come from with the old timer who owned the property he said - "Septic tank". If your on town water then letting the water sit will help disapate the chlorine. Anyway it really comes down to the fact that you are soley responsible for your birds health and their husbandary, your input will be rewarded with their output. You need to workout the balance in this equation by monitoring etc.
