Nathan, without knowing what you keep it is like what others said - some do some dont. The ones that do will devour live food if they are needing it ie breeding and often wont breed or raise young ( or very small clutches) without them. Learn your species requirments and dont just give them everything. Also too remmeber like us we learn from generations before us and if the parents didnt use live food to raise the the birds you have then they may not always revert to instinct. Sometimes you have to have a finch that can show others what they are missing out on. Also dont panic if they dont eat it the first time you offer it, like kids it often takes several goes to get them to eat Brussel Sprouts. Dont go too hard on the mealies as they are nutritionaly unbalanced (wrong Ca:P ratio), termites, maggots, crickets or woodies are the way to go.
