Went to our local bird breeder today to get a breeding pair of Gouldians, for the cabinet. He said to wait until Septemper to start thinking of breeding.I have bought birds from him before and is a top old fella..
I think we will wait?????

It is probably getting a bit late to breed gouldians in the cabinet. I'm going to build 3 breeding cabinets for some blue gouldians later this year but if I had the cabinets now I probably would have waited till after the molt. You could always get some though if you wanted but you'd probably only be pushing 1 clutch of eggs and that's it.

I think also that breeders will want to see how their young colour up before moving any on .

Nathan,

Yeah, so? In the southern states a lot of people do the same. You are not Robinson Crusoe, so thank you for your insight and groundbreaking information. (Once again).

Brett, I don't see why you couldn't breed them now, though the cold would definitely be discouraging for them...

Mine breed when it rains, which is why we always had babies during winter. So in summer, we put a sprinkler on top of the aviary. :eureka:

Rain seems to set them off best here too. Looks like being the best year for a while here and yes it has rained more this year than the previous 6 or 7. 30mm in a week is wet here.

It seems like a very confusing subject, i thank everyone for there replys and opinions.

As i am very new to finchers and the breeding of them i rely on peoples feedback and go from there, but at the end of the day i will learn from trail and error i suppose.

I have learnt lots from this site its been great for me.

Thanks Brett

I don't really seem to take much notice, but all I can say is that I've had a terrible season. Maybe that's the reason why, because we havnt had hardly any rain lately.
