Finch prices in QLd Pet Shop 30 May 2011

Was in a Pet Shop (one of the better ones I have seen) today and saw the following:

Cubans - $65 a pair (only 1 male and 2 females in stock)

Chestnuts - $70 a pair (only 1 pair in stock and they both had bald heads!!!)

Gouldians - $30 each (0 stock though)

Star - $75 pair (only 1 bird in stock, unsure of sex)

Zebras - $16 a pair or $10 each (had whites, pied and normals in stock)

Are these prices average???

Prices will vary from state to state in pet shops aswell as private sales,And even pet shop to pet shop can vary a huge amount. Someone in QLD maybe able to comment specifically on those prices, But i would say compared to Vic pricing.Over all the pricing is ok ,The goulds are a steal .

a few prices there seem a lil high compared to my local pet shop but it just depends on the store i supose,
at my local these are a few prices
gouldians $50 pair
stars $60 a pair
zebras $12 a pair
but at another local but very high priced store gouldians are $80 a pair

A shop not far from where I live (Vic)is selling

Cubans for $180 pair (bald heads),
Cordon Bleu’s for $200 pair
Gouldians for $130 pair
Zebras for $30 pair

A bit pricey in my opinion. And very limited range

Stars in my local dealer are $40/pr, Chestnuts (fully feathered) $35-$45......Not sure about Zebs & Cubans, but I think around $10/pr and $50/pr respectively from memory.....Normal Gouldians $50-$60/pr

I definitely wouldnt buy Chestnuts for $70/pr with bald heads.....even with a dna sexing certificate.....

Sales, dealers/shops or breeders with more range would be a better bet........you can stand back and decide which individual birds you want or definitely not want.....

I think QFS are about to sit down and nut out their bird price guide again soon.......pretty good tool when you're not sure yourself

Hey Bezer,

Saw you are in Toowoomba, do you use the big pet shop (the one beside the Workplace Safety Store??) heading out towards Bunnings. I have heard there is another store that has a bigger range in Twba but do not where. Can you provide any info??

na i dont use pet stock its to pricey and very limited in stock, there is a half decent pet shop in south st thats not bad and a new pet store inbetween toowoomba and oakey that specialises in birds, i got a pair of lutino blue faced parrot finches there yesterday and they are great stock and not to bad on prices

That's a rip off at my pet superstore in Sydney its
Stars $60 pair
Gouldians $20 pair
Cubans $75 pair
Zebras $14 pair

My dealer sells Cubans $90pp chestnuts $50pp gouldians $60-80+ depends on stock and colour stars $60pp and zebs were $8 each but that's in Vic, also got to with stock the more they have that aren't selling they will drop price with multiple pairs. Also have been given free seed and discounts.
