Some split blue Gouldians have the odd blue feather on their back. The photo is an extreme example - a male single factor yellowback split for blue (one of its parents was a blue).
Has anyone else noticed the blue feathers on the backs of split blues?

thanks for sharing this photo, wow, have never seen a gouldian like that before, what were its siblings like? did they show little bits of blue feather?
have heard about people talking about blue running through the green and them asking if it was split blue?, but i was'nt sure if it was true or not indicator for it being split for blue.

Normal Gouldians sometimes show a blue "wash" on the wing too. I've had a few normals with this (definitely not split blues) & some of the photos of wild Gouldians shown recently at the convention also showed some individuals with a definite blue wash on the wings/back.

The siblings included some true blues. The sibling splits did not have a lot of blue feathers on their backs like the one in the photo.
While some definite split blues have an odd blue feather on the back, the converse is questionable - ie birds of unknown genetics for blue cannot be gauranteed to be split blue if they have an odd blue feather - only selective breeding could confirm the genetics (for split blue) for such a bird.
