The amount of "mottling" in Aust yellows is highly variable. The attached photos are RH AY males ranging from clear to mottled to extremely mottled.
I like all these forms and breed for them.

Not an expert but the bottom right bird is my favourite . It has clean colours if that makes sense .

Yeah I agree as well. The one with clean colours is a lot nicer looking

Im in agreement, the clear coloured bird is my favourite, mind you, if you are thinking of sending the mottled one down here....I love him! :D . The mottled birds chest looks to have a blue tinge to it, it this just the pic/lighting? Or does the mottling on the back have an effect on the chest colour or elsewhere in the bird too, it seems like it could do as the black line around the head is different.

I like the one in picture 15 (Top) with heavy mottling and currently trying to find one for sale.
I'm not so keen on the "Clean" ones as I think they look too much like DF sex linked yellows.

I guess if you want to sure you are getting an Aus Yellow then the mottling would be what to look for.

I also like the bird with the green fowling on its back. It is this type that I source for my breeding programe, the more green fowling the better but I only keep birds showing clean white chest. I once purchased a cock showing purple patches in its chest and one of its offspring moulted into a female p/b yellowback. I am sure this has been discussed in another post on the forum but I cant remember where. Does any one remember?

The green mottling is a feature of Australian yellow birds which have only been through their first moult. At the second moult, they all lose the green mottling.
