I have taken all the nest boxes out of my aviary to give the birds a rest for a few months. But one pair are intent on breeding anyway. They built their own nest in the crook of a branch. I didn't worry about that as I figured the cockatiels in the cage would tear it up and in the mean time the pair could sit in it and keep warm. But the tiels didn't tear it up and the pair are now incubating 4 eggs in it. Should I take the eggs away? Try and move the eggs and parents to a proper nest box? I am afraid to leave them there because the nest they have built is open and the chicks may fall out.

Welcome to the world of Zebs. Not sure how stable it is but zebs in the wild build in the open. This is only my opinion but if they are on eggs I'd be leaving them be.

Update in this nest - there are now 2 chicks in it, around 2 weeks old. I noticed that when I was in feeding the birds that these chicks are very active. Usually when I look in a nest box the chicks sit quite still, occasionally shuffling themselves. These 2 however are looking around at everything, including me, pecking at a feather, stretching a wing, looking around some more. I am assuming this is because they are in an open nest and are used to seeing activity? They are very cute little things I must say
