Kinda YAY and a sidekick .
Kinda sheesh too cold for this .
Now have 2 baby Bourkes coming into pin feather , lots of pink and maybe wishful thinking but one looks to be creamy ( parent split to cream ).
Grey pied Red Rumps are on 2 newies so far with fertile looking eggs still to hatch .
AND ( this is exciting) Musk Lorikeet is spending a lot of time in the nest of a day and he is feeding her , lots of smootching and cuddling .
Now to wait for them to fledge and try to get them through those first few cold days ...wish me luck.
darned fools

Should be all good Deb, they all come from out your way & further down, so should be use to the cold by now. Mind you it's been a little chilly this year, down to single figures of a night here already, & last couple of days have been lucky to hit 20.

Always the best time of year here for me ??? Redbrows this year and gouldians + Redbrows both fledged young when the morning temps were well below zero last year.Doesnt add up but i guess they know something we dont.Seems ridiculous for Northern species to do that.Check our temps VR i would happily swap right now.At work while i was away they recorded -5.8

It would near kill me these days, this year I have felt the cold more than ever, & considering I work in cold rooms & freezers running at -24, its a bit of a hassel.

It has been taxing and its only June .
Dubbo winters are usually not too bad , cold nights but gawjus days . So far its snowed an hour and a half away twice and both times with strong winds driving the cold up here .
My aviaries look like a clark rubber shop has exploded in my yard , plastic everywhere but doing a good job of letting the sun in and the cold out .
I think its going to be a long cold winter .

Best of luck with them all Deb. Sounds like you have it all under control, to the extent that anyone can.

Yea deb i hear you..i walked out yesterday and i knew that i had a pair of goulds sitting but didnt expect anything of it seeing as its been so damn cold and eggs i had from other nests did not hatch and they wer in boxes. Well this pair had been sitting in a realy crappy old wikker basket and pretty exposed aswell mind you.
Anyway its chokkers full of babies madly making a rakket and being very noisy. So fingers crossed!!! Becuz weve been down to 4 degrees and 3 aswell in the last few nights.
Dont know how some pairs just manage to pull it off. Also seeing this has been a crap breeding season for me with them. Ive bred a few but not in the numbers i should.

Its a worry for sure but think back to summer with young being deserted because of high temps . I guess the birds know whats what .Hope so .

Hey deb meant to add im trying something for these winters birds who cant say no to breeding. Ive since stuffed the nest boxes with feathers. i checked one out about 30 mins after doing it and the goulds had neatly arranged them. Has to be warmer then grass!! Would parrots do the same deb? I may be well off but trying to make it relevant and hey if it helps?? i thought well dooners are stuffed with feathers and there warm! hehehehe
