And that is exactly why they stopped publishing them. It was still around in the early 80s.
They also used to publish members' breeding results, which I would eagerly anticipate each year. They stopped publishing these for similar reasons I believe.
What types of finches do you keep?

Its probably a good thing that they stopped it because there might be people out there just waiting to see whohs got what and h many there are to sell as well as having buyers all lined up such as they do with cars. Do you think that alot of birds that have been stolen are exported overseas or interstate. These are reasons why I prefer to sell to dealers, do get less money than selling private but also don't like the inconvenience of being rung at all hours and people come to look but not buy, have had some birds stolen not all but just so happened after advertising birds for sale and had a few people through, have my suspicions who they might have been especially after the next year these 2 young guys came back to ask if I had anymore parrots for sale and the previous year they came and looked and didn't buy anything.

Some people have 'visitors' books' where names & addresses are recorded
Others record visitors car rego
Others record phone callers numbers . . easy with 'tell-tales' on phones . . dont know how traceable these would be with 'privacy laws'
Any more ????

It is a sad state of affairs. Fortunately I've never had birds nicked and I've never really considered it to be a major concern. Above comments make me wonder if I've just been lucky.
One thing I don't get is how the bastards manage to catch the birds in any real quantity? It'd take me hours to catch most of mine. Or were the robberies larger parrots or from smaller cages?
I have met people halfway between our homes on the side of the road to swap/purchase birds. These birds could easily have been stolen, but how would you ever know?

I knew someone that had GCC when they were worth good money; he was also developing a particular mutation at the time. I guess someone heard where he lived and one day sadly all his birds were stolen. He was devastated.jusdeb wrote: I wouldn't say I have an expensive collection but I would say for someone in need of cash they would look like easy money , that's how it is in Dubbo .
My loss would mostly be emotional as I have the collection I want and love them all .
Its not only the loss of birds its the feeling of violation , that you aren't secure in your own home .
No longer in contact but I would assume he never went back into birds.
