We got some baby Gouldians from our friend.
If they born in March/april how long does it take for them to get there colours.
They are showing green backs a bit..

Thanks

Mine normally take 6 to 9 months and I have found hens colour up quicker than Cocks.

I obtained juveniles born in late Feb, 2011. Still waiting :yawn: . Although they do show a little black on their heads. Have no idea how some of you guys can not only tell what head and body colour a Juv will be, you can also sex them. Sounds like black magic to me :eh:

If you know the parent birds you can work out what colour the young are going to be, especially if you know the breeding behind the parents. Got to be careful making colour judgements if you keep in a colony situation though as "nest hopping" can go on :D
There is a topic about the difference in the colour change between the chest and belly feathers on the youngsters.

This topic is about thoughts on the way and speed the young colour up (based purely on my observations though!)
viewtopic.php?f=39&t=2191&hilit=+head+colour" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Another topic on the inheritance of colour
