Sorry that is not an Australian yellow it is a sex linked European pastel ! Australian yellows have a white breast and is an autosomal recessive mutation .Different mode of inheritance . Just to confuse things pastel’s can also have the white breasted mutation as well. Have to know there breeding.TheFinchMan101 wrote:I just purchased a pair of black headed Australian yellows from the pet store today and I only just noticed the red bar under his breast, is it normal for yellows to have the red bar under their breast?? Ill try and post a photo up later. Thanks

This is one of my purple breast fellows with the fussion Line. Sometimes with the purple breast the camera can play tricks making a red line appear where there isn't one really. Whenever in doubt catch the bird up and take a look. The red line is actual within the center of the feather. This is a for real fussion line.
I have noticed on some of my fledglings that have just starting to color up it is their reline that starts to come in first. I have never had a hen display the red line, only cock birds. Most paintings and drawings in old books of finches show this red line /fussion bar. It is a trait that has for the most part been lost with captive breeding.
