i know some that use this forum breed and own alot of zebra finches, and may not consider them such a close "Pet" like Pete and i do, which is fine.
We have 9 Zebra finches, we never intended of having nine but when we had to pair up our first 2 pet finches, (as they were both a same sex female pair, and were laying eggs like crazy) nature took its course and along came the babies, we love our birds and have grown quite fond of them, they live inside a very big and cosey indoor Avery. They all have quite individual personalities and there own names so im curious to know if any other finch enthusiasts kept finches as a house hold pet and if they named there finches, we have some imtersting names for ours so i thought it would be interesting to find out what other people have named theres.....
in order from purchase/birth...
Finchy
Pinchy
Gregory Peck
Mrs Peck (Gregs mate)
and finally Greg and Mrs Pecks children....
Gregory Peck Jr
Amego
Phillipa Finch
Browny
Topdeck

i only have a few with names:
Peggy, the one legged gouldian finch  (lost it to an owl attack :S )
Maverick and Goose, 2 good looking painted firetail boys (emblemas) i hand reared, always together, even now they are out in the aviary.
and the newest,
Monkey, another hand reared little bird, gouldian this time, assuming RH cock bird for a few different reasons. since the time he could beg he has been the cheekiest little bird ever, and learnt to climb before he could fly so Monkey seemed appropriate!!

Have to many birds to name, even if I tried would probably forget most of them, so I use a basic naming system when I talk to them boy for cocks girlie for hens and young one for any fledglings that I can't tell the sex.

Im surprised you dont have one called "Scout" or "Atticus" after characters in "To kill a mockingbird" one of Gregory Peck's most famous movies. :D
Might be a good name for one future offspring.

I do have names for a couple (ok, ok, maybe more than a couple  ) but they usually have distinguished themselves in some way.
For example.
Emblema cock that builds fantastic nests, building and dismantling them around the sitting hen = Bob, couldnt really be anything else, could he?
Emblema hen..wife to above is Megan as whenever the camera is about she strikes a model pose!
See here, when she was young....

Orange breasted cock with only one foot. What else could he be except Captain Silver?
Gouldian with white chest and leg bands colour green and orange (all colours in the Irish Flag) called Paddy, so his partner had to be called Colleen

Thats it for now, unless one of the youngsters does something unusual to warrant a name.

by the way, those are all great names! :D
the theory behind our finch naming (as you could probably tell) was to name the finches after any name related to "finch" ie Atticus, gregory ect ....
the only name that doesnt fit in is "Pinchy"....because it rhymed with "Finchy" and Pinchy was the second finch we brought. Finchy and Pinchy became best pals, inseparable...and then lovers lol. they were both females and we soon had to introduce two males because they began to lay eggs like crazy!
