Are they kept as an aviary bird ?
Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

Yes Deb, large aviary 10mtrs X 10 mtrs, they can be kept as free range, protected from dogs, but wings need to be clipped which I do not do. The one pictured was hatched and raised with a Belgian d'uccle bantam and thinks she is a chook (can't understand why the bantam wants to sleep at night when she is just getting started.)
I also have another female and they hate each other!

I wouldn't call them creepy or cute but they are an odd and interesting birds in the same way as frogmouths are. I noticed that there was a pair of stone curlews breeding in the garden bed near the multi-story carpark at the University of Queensland a couple of weeks ago and they weren't at all phased by the passing traffic (vehicular or pedestrian) but I don't know what protected them from cats - even I saw them before I saw the sign alerting everyone to their presence.

If creepy mean adorable then I agree.
That would explain why my niece finds me creepy too.
