Does anyone here know the genetics of the pearl longtail? There has been a couple of suggestions here that it is really an opaline. In parrots opaline is sex linked recessive which means you can have a split cock but not a split hen, the hen will always show it. To get an opaline hen you must have an opaline cock and either an opaline or a split hen. Is that the case with the pearl longtails or is it a different inheritance pattern?

I think you got that one the wrong way around: To get an opaline hen you just need a split cock. To get an opaline cock, you need an opaline hen and either a split cock or opaline cock.

Pearl Longtails are autosomal recessive.

:whoa: That'll teach me to do genetics at 2am  Of course you're right, not sure what I was thinking. To much time doing Gouldian genetics lately methinks and getting recessive and ZZs mixed up..
