Pecked by a finch!

Whenever I have gone near my finch nest boxes in the past the occupants fly out. Today however I took a nest down to check it and the zebra hen didn't come out. Even when I opened the lid she just shuffled a bit but wouldn't come out. So I put my hand in there thinking something may be wrong and she pecked me! Turns out she is fine just really protective of her eggs. She has been normal every other time. I am just amazed that the finch was brave enought to try and protect her eggs like that. Has anyone else been pecked by nesting finches?
