Tried a variety of different ways to interest my birds (Zebs and Goulds) in their greens, wouldn't look at fine chopped, rough chopped, whole leaves, mixed with seed. Finally tried putting in whole plants (Pak choy, Bok Choy, Silver Beet) in a small container with some water to keep the plants fresh and WOW talk about interest!!!!!!! Had only just secured the aviary doors when each plant was literally attacked by birds!!!!!!!!!!!
By the end of the day each leaf looked like a sieve!!!!!!!!
Interesting thing is if I use veges from the grocery store, the birds are interested but if I use veges picked up from the roadside farm stalls (the ones I use basically pick today, place on stall tomorrow the birds are INTERESTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only goes to prove the old saying "Fresh is Best" I would say.
To top it off, even my king quail have started pecking at the leaves after spending a few days watching the finches devour the greens.
Finally found the secret to feeding my birds greens

Trays of food
take away food containers make just enough for a couple of days pickings , used to trim them but now just put the whole tray in.
Also used to be fanatical about the aviary floors being tidy and free of grass , now have mouse mesh floors covered in t tree mulch so the grass grows through , good munchy free fresh food .

Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.
