Wouldn't the all metal aviary itself earth the electricity?

only if touching the aviary and the hotwire simultaneously T. try jumping off the ground and grabbing an electric fence, does zilch. 2 metal wires run right next to each other (say 1cm or so apart would be ideal), one hot, one earthed would give them a zap. will be setting one up on my next set of aviaries (though that won't be til i move out )

They do touch simultaneously. I have had many frogs, a couple of tree snakes,mice,toads and numerous large insects killed on the hot wire while being earthed by nothing but the all metal aviary. Have even been zapped myself when a finger has touched the hot wire and the thumb on the same hand was touching the aviary wire and the zapp is only through that hand.
I know what you are saying about jumping up and grabbing the wire while I hang in mid air, ( not that I am going to try it)
as it happens all the time with fruit bats, as long as one wing does not touch another wire.

sorry, didn't quite make myself clear (was on the train to uni with some guy falling asleep next to/on me )
what i mean is that a bird will quite often perch solely on the hotwire, without touching anything else. this means they aren't grounded (hence my comparison to jumping in the air while touching a hotwire) and will feel little, if any, shock. if you have 2 wires right next to each other they would almost certainly touch both, and hence should always be grounded...

Success at last. After about two weeks of morning raids, a scalped pigeon and deserted nests, it was finally caught in the cat trap using a frozen dead pigeon and several pieces of raw meat as bait. It was relocated today (no, not to the compost heap or wheely bin) several kilometres away well fed and rested. I don't think it was particularly cunning, just young and stupid. I must be

I said "several kilometres" not a couple, and the next state is only several kilometres from where I am! Qld. has given me so much. Infringement notices, parking fines, attitude, the least I can do is give something back.

Well done tintola, good catch I had never thought of that idea. I am currently trialing a rather large statue of an owl (very life like) on the top of the aviary roof. I have been told owls and hawks are arch enemies,due to the fact they are in competition against each other for food.I assume both are very territorial as one hunts by day the other night.Anyway the size of my owl,the only thing that would be game to tackle him would be a wedgie.Maybe if i end up attracting one of them the whole aviary will end up being uprooted and taken away

They were selling them at the Chandlery store at work to try & stop the seagulls ect from landing & Sh!ting on the boats, didn't work but.
