If he has a cage full of normals, i'd reckon that would be a good start. You can ask him how he knows that they are pure, some wild ones might have got stuck in his mates aviary a couple of years ago!
A Qld breed was advertising some on Petlink many months back being surplus/offspring from wild caught birds (legally) from a scientific study.

Most or all Zebra Clubs will have Pure Normals. We paid $50-$60p for good size Normals but you will still get something pop up now and then. I have Pure Normal Fawns as i know what they have come from they are not/cannnot be Split for anything.
