I dont know anything about air sac mites so can I ask please ...

Is it deadly ?

How long can the birds wait for treatment ?

What causes it ?

Is it spread from bird to bird ?

Highly likely there are other birds in the aviary that will be infected as well.

Deb I'm no expert but I'll do my best to explain. Air sac mites are microscope mites the affect the air sac(lungs) by infecting them which leads to the bird not able to breath, over a period of time( depends on how bad of an infection) the bird left untreated will die. It is passed from bird to bird (airborne I think or wiping of beak on perches ECT) and can be very contagious. I know that gouldians and canaries have a high risk of catching the disease but I know that most/all finches are at risk parrots I'm not to certain if they can. As for treatment I will let someone else more experienced explain. I i said that I'm no expert so somethings may be left out or a little incorrect but this is the just of it.

I will see if I can get some from the stockfeeds place on the way home tonight. Lost 90% of a collection once before in my life, and that's once too many. Will do anything to get this under control, if indeed it is what the general consensus think it is.

Sam, they are doing OK. I just don't get it... they are showing no discomfort, they are not finding flying difficult, or eating, drinking, perching, not fluffed. Surely they would show at least SOME sign of discomfort? have even spied on them with my binoculars from around the side of the house to make sure I wasn't missing something just because I was in sight.

i have had gouldians with airsac show no other signs of illness, bar the occasional click, s76 might be a good idea for your aviary?

it helps control airsac mite, i add it to the water once a month to keep atop of airsac mites with my gouldians. saves catching all the birds to treat.

you have to become a client of robs to buy it, which isn't to much of a hassle.
