To blame the bird as just being a thug & a bad bird is a bit rich when you are dealing with a very boisterous/aggressive natured species to start with & placing them into very confined conditions with other species. Given this I would have been very surprised if there wasn't major aggression issues. This powerfully highlights the need to thoroughly research the biology & captive requirements of any species we acquire well before we purchase so that we can assess our ability to adequately care for & hopefully later breed them.

Tend to agree with the space theory. I've had one male and three crimson hens together in a 2X2X10' cage and even the hens had a pecking order. Having learnt from experience in keeping a pair in much smaller quarantine set up, my preference would now be to provide as much space as possible.

unfortunatly I was told that the crimsons were fine in a breeding cage when I brought them,it was only after I got them I found out their reputation for aggression .It did teach me not to buy anything without looking at species profiles first and iv passed up on few birds after looking into their nature.I guess some sellers are more interested in a sale and thats what the crimsons taught me!
I will just see how he gos on his own,he seems fine, and either keep him seperated beside the others or perhaps find him a home with an avery if he seems lonley his hen is the opposite shes a happy shy thing who seems happy with zebras she lives with one star gave her a hard time one over a mealworm and she fled so shes not aggressive but she is terrified of mr crimson
All my birds have plenty of greenry and boxs to hide in and nest with so not sure if thats a problem.

I have one pr currently in a quarantine aviary 2m long x 1 m wide x 2m high that I recently purchased.I also have some brush for hiding only in this small quarantine aviary for the hen to hide if needed. From my personal experience this is so far, the smallest area I have yet to have issues with them.At the same time I got a unrelated hen she went in a budgie size breeding cabinet, She did not make it through the quarantine period.Another bad experience for me with crimsons in a small area. All these birds came from the same reputable breeder, And I believe were in excellent condition when received here.Yet they say they are breed in Europe this way.Maybe so but they have been breed this way for many years, where as our stock here is not accustomed to this way of housing.

Also have read that male crimsons left on there own for long periods of time tend to become more aggressive when added back into an aviery with other inhabitants( female crimsons or other birds). May be best if look at adding him to a densely planted aviery with his hen or just leave him by himself. You could always buy another male for your hen when you have the housing requirements.

no just breeding boxs and one realy big cage/indoor avery that houses zebs/societys/stars /canary/spices/chestnut/lady crimson..all those get on fine and no way is he going in there as they are all peacefull.
Mr crimson seems ok ,hes out in the kitchen facing a big wheeled cage with the budgies/javas i notice he comunicates with them and so hes only sort of isolated im off for 3 days so im going to put the javas in with him and watch carefully ,if that dosnt work I will rehome him to someone with an avery .
I am wondering if he was a problem for a while with the longtails,he always seemed fine but they seem much livlier without him so perhaps he was worrying them

Mate, I think you are going to have to face facts: you do not have suitable facilities to adequately house this species. You would be well advised to sell or loan them to an aviculturist who can house them apropriately and concentrate your own efforts on species that are better suited to the sort of housing you can provide.
