Hi all,
I am travelling to Europe at the end of the year (all of december away)!
I was wondering if anyone might recommend best places to go bird-wise? as far as I'm aware, we will be in the following countries. We have not decided on cities yet. However, if the are some big worthwhile places I'm sure I could get my family to detour :D

Spain
(Southern )Germany
England (briefly)
Belgium
France
Switzerland

Thanks :D

Jersey Zoo? You're are close enough for a detour. :D (Knock one off the bucket list, while the parents are paying :D )
Why not shoot off a pm to bernd76287, hes is in Germany and I sure he could point you in the right direction there. He would probably also have many contacts in the other countries too.

Berlin Tirepark
Berlin Zoo and
Walstrode Bird Park are the best ones in Germany, though Walstrode is up North, it has the biggest collection of birds in the world!

paris has what is known as europe's biggest exotic bird market. it's on the same island as notre dame cathedral. the thing is, for the europeans, exotic means AUSSIE!! i was a bit disappointed, even though i got to see a couple of foreign birds i'd never seen live - but i've never seen so many colour morphs of our parrots!! lots of rosellas, neophemas, finches, but mostly mutation. worth a look, though.

Don't forget your thermals for that time of year, especially Switzerland, would suspect it to be pretty chilly! Sounds like a great trip.

You will need a bit more than a coat, you might want to think about investing in some thermal underwear.
These have nothing to do with birds but I have head good things about the Christmas Markets in Europe. Maybe your Mum and sister would enjoy them, if you are in any of these areas. Some of them have been going since the Middle Ages. Lots of local arts and crafts.
