Yellow-throated Miner; Dubbo is on the eastern extremity of their range. In Sydney we have the Noisy Miners.

They are stripping the bird netting over the vegie patch , I guess for nesting materials ...as a result this one fell through and got stuck .

Last thing I need is clutch after clutch of them calling my yard home .

He has a new exciting adventure in front of him now , meet new friends and explore the countryside well away from town .

just shows how ignorante I am. I thought they were all Noisy Miners
For years friends would complain about them annoying their birds and I just didn't understand what all the fuss was about.
Then 6 moved into my area or should I say my back yard. I have never known how much of a pest they are.
They are nesting at the moment but I feel if the Wattle Birds let them rear chicks the lot are due for relocation of around 100kms from here and if they come back it will be a permanent relocation. They will tackle all bar the local nesting Magpies.

I think because they are pack hunters it makes them all the more dangerous .

Deb,
They are noisy miners, members of the honeyeater family, more destructive in regards to the dispersion of smaller birds (read wrens, sparrows, silvereys etc) than the Indian Myna because of their very territorial nature. We have caused this in Sydney because of making cleared areas (parks etc). They are the most predominant bird in inner Sydney and cause me grief every day because of their territoriallity. Down come my screens, in they come for the harrassment, then they leave and come back, just to show they can. Scare the sh.t out of the finches but they do give a fair warning they are about by their calls. They are good to have around in some respects because they will ward off butcherbirds and currawongs. Only trouble I have is that the bird you are relocating will not survive because they live in family groups in specific territories. Like trying to relocate a Kookaburra in a new territory. Not good. If you want to relocate him suggest you try and catch the whole family group and take them all so they may have a chance to establish a new territory. Only trouble is that a new group will move into paradise. If not then let him go or put him down, but the family group will still be there. It only lasts during the breeding season (in my area anyway) so I just put up with it. Hey, they have their rights! They are terrible parents as they are the most reported native bird to be taken to vets for rearing as they tend to leave the nest early. Most vets tend to euthanase because of they are not threatend and resources do not permit.

Just for your info

Matcho.

It took them a while, but my Noisy Miners are now mostly used to the Aviary, and won't attack it very much. And the finches know what to do when the miners do attack (ie, hide in the tea-tree and up the back). They are very annoying birds. Saw good bye to the little Brown Jobs in your area when they come in :(
