so many native critters

Living in a country town we travel a fair bit to other large towns so Im used to seeing road kill and various wildlife .
Today was a trip to Cessnock and I have never seen so many animals killed on the side of the road .
Roos , Wallabies , Echidnas and Wombats littered the road from edge of Dubbo all the way to C/Nock .

On the way home come 5 pm there were Roos and Wallabies to be seen every where feeding .
The rains earlier in the year has meant a massive breeding season Im guessing . Guess who wont be travelling these roads sunup or sundown for a while .
And Im also guessing farmers will be screaming for a cull some time soon once the crops start to grow and the roos invade paddocks. :cry:

24-7 round here Deb, rain means there is food eevrywhere for them, so generally don't see as many roadkill, no rain, the roadside is generally green due to dew runoff from the road, then you'd see a couple every km or so, generally see more during cane harvest season as well.

The travelling stock route has been burnt back and the new growth is bringing them up to the roadside . Not ideal .

Would rather see them alive than dead ...never get sick of seeing a mob of Kangaroos scooting through the bush ...awesome sight .

Mum an dad are in Mildura and you would see the roos often but havnt seen any around for along time. Was a time a couple of years back where they had alot of Emus around and the year they were we did see a half dozen or so before Mildura. Running amuck like the roos.

Couple of years back when the drought was real bad round here the emus were in bush right on the edge of town. Guess they came in to the river.

havnt seen many roos around here either , can smell afew dead ones every now and then, well it smells like something has died in the bush, not many rabbits either at this point...pete

Had to drive from Mount Gambier to Cobar last sunday, there is now one less kangaroo hopping around.
Although the removal of the pest has cost me approx $300, being for a new windscreen & drivers side mirror, panel beating I fixed on the spot.
Then yesterday on the drive from Cobar to Whyalla I had the misfortune to remove another piece of our native wildlife from the here & now.
Stupid bloody eagle decided to play chicken.

Thats no good Poitta . Glad you didn't end up a casualty yourself , these roads can be a bit dangerous .
Anyhoo good luck with the job . Oh friend coming in from Cobar tells me feral goats in huge numbers getting along the roadside :roll:
