Mine are breeding in a mixed avairy. Only trouble I ever had was the cock killed a sick painted finch, before I could rescue it.
I persume he was trying to stop it fluttering round as instinct says a fluttering bird will attract preditors. When they are nesting I put the greens in a couple of locations, as he is a little bossy, just shoos others clear of his close vacinity.

I am curious what size aviary are yours in? I have had them in mixed collection with no problem also but it was a very large aviary
