Ban Puppy Farms!

Sorry that this doesn't have anything to do with birds, but I am trying to let as many people I know as I can!

Puppy Farms are horrid hell holes that keep dogs in cages their entire lives, forcing them to breed until they are unable to anymore, this is when they are 'disposed' of.

It is legal for a dog to be forced to sleep on a plank of wood, only if that plank of wood is raised off the ground. It is legal for a mother dog to give birth to her pups in her own waste, and it is legal to sell these pups (that come with free behavioural problems and health issues) to the public, preferably to pet stores and online stores.

95% of puppies sold in petstores have come from puppy farms, that is fact.

Already am aware and active in the fight against puppy mills ...my sad little sausage dog came to us only minutes before she was to be taken care of by the owner .....( gun , big property = taken care of ).

She made a run for it as my son entered the property , cheaper to give her away than waste a bullet

She had a twisted ovary from being bred too young and was thin and very traumatised ...couldnt keep up with the 20 other dogs running amok in the breeding hell hole called FRIENDSHIP FARM in a nearby town .

Not sure if this puppy mill has since closed down but I do know I was responsible for an investigation into a Pug puppy mill a few years ago which was shut down and the owner prosecuted YAY .

I have bred dogs and still associate with some lovely dog breeders who can make a living from it ,and still have beautiful well natured and cared for breeding stock producing gawjus well adjusted puppies ...GREED is the downfall .

As well as these puppies going to pet stores a hell of a lot are being sent over to Asian countries ..I do mean a lot too.

I have never been to a puppy farm,Nor do I wish to.But I have seen a few back yarders and even people with a single bitch,that have a lot to be desired as far as animal welfare goes. I guess there is a market for pups,but who is the better to supply the market ? A heavily regulated puppy breeding farm where there are welfare and regular vet checks,which we currently don't have? Or backyard breeders with unsexed dogs where there is no regulations either and never likely to be ? not a easy one to police either way.The better its ran the more the pups cost the more people want to get into it.

I myself have 3 cavalier king Charles spaniel pups here at the moment.Mind you its the dogs first litter at well over 2.5 yrs old and may or may not be the last.A great way for little tikes to learn about life.

I went to the Victorian rally yesterday, it was awesome!!!!

I hate puppy farms so bad, I even flinch when people say "I got a puppy, or my dog had pups!" because Im thinking, No.1 where did you get that puppy? and No.2 thousands of pups already die each year!

I have known people to breed dogs just to make money, mind you at first they were breeding purebred aussie bulldogs, then they branched into 'designer' dogs. You have all heard the names they come up with for these crossbreeds. Puggle, Maltipoo etc. It makes me so angry! I have nothing against crossbreeds, some of them can be great pets, I had a maltese cross blue cattle dog for 11 years that we adopted from the animal welfare league when he was a puppy. I just don't like it when people crossbreed on purpose, whether it is to make money or just to 'see what they come out like'. They think that they will get the best of both breeds when this is rarely the case. Experienced dog breeders have been perfecting the breeds we have for hundreds of years. The majority of undesirable traits have been weeded out. Then you get these irresposible people who cross perfectly good breeds to try and get something better. The result is unpredictable traits and alot of dogs that end up with mental problems. I wonder what percentage at pounds etc are purebred dogs? I could go on and on but I think we all have similar views about puppy mills etc.

Yes but we must be fair to those that do breed dogs with love and kindness . As usual its the bad seeds that ruin it for everyone .

Educating the buyers wouldn't go astray either , people go in and its all goo and gah over the cute little puppy , if they took a step back and looked at puppies bred in well maintained facilities and socialised properly they wouldn't think twice about buying puppy milled dogs ...You can see the differences if you know what your looking for .

Pet shops should not be allowed to sell puppies full stop ...impulse buys = disaster .

This subject just reinforces what I have been saying for decades ...the more I see of humans the more I love my animals .

Malibu its surprising the number of pedigree dogs , especially larger dogs that end up at the pound . People buy them when they are in vogue and have no idea of their needs so give them up .

And as for cross breeds ..Ive been converted by this little angel and yes a pound puppy.
