If you are doing it bulk and freezing it - add before you freeze so you have nothing to do when its fed out

Frozen mix
These days I do a bulk batch and store it in take away containers in the freezer.
Info copied from people at the Qld Finch Convention
Soaked Seed(2 hours only)
Chitted Seed(Soaked seed that has been allowed to just start to shoot)
Frozen Veg.Put through a blender FROZEN and chopped fine.
A decent soft food mix(no egg,as I am worried about it spoiling in the warmer weather)
Any additives as required.
If your seed is drained well the mix will be crumbly when thawed.
I just take out the container frozen and put it in a pottery(glazed) feed bowl and it disappears
In my big aviary I feed out twice a day as it just doesn't last that long and you must have it available all day not just in the mornings.

You may think im crazy but in recent times ive been crushing up vitamin d3 tablets that my wife takes and mixing into sprouted seeds and or on maggots. Seems to work a charm. i also use PVM powder. Had a few issues with eggbinding in recent times. Found with the pills a pvm they have vanished. Thay bloody calcium water mix stuff is to expensive for me.

Having said that being the owner of saltwater fish tanks i shouldnt complain about money spent

Hmmm looking at some calcium/D3 pills right at this moment . Mine cost $14 for 100 at 1 per day whereas the liquid I buy for the birds ...well it varies but its not cheap.

Vitamin D3 500 IU and elemental calcium 600mg per tablet ....any of you brainiacs feel like comparing that to Calcivet ...just for curiosity perhaps. :?:
