I have decided to try my zebs and cockatiels on some homemade egg & biscuit. I know I have read somewhere here about ratios but can't seem to find it. I am planning on using eggs (obviously), arrowroot biscuits and probably a small amount of Passwell's Finch Soft Food (my birds don't want to touch it on its own). How much of each should I use and how long can I store excess for? Thanks in advance!

1 egg yolk + 1 milk arrowroot . I buy soft food now which goes in dry so not such a worry about food spoiling however when I do make it I put MA bicky in the food processor then mash the egg and mix by hand .

In all honesty when Im having a slacker and just pop 1/4 or 1/2 a hard boiled egg in the aviaries the birds will happily eat the egg on its own which suits me as they are also getting cake as part of the diet.

Egg biscuit can be anything from plain to extravagant
Basic 1 egg hard boiled and de shelled and two plain (arrowroot or marie) biscuits mashed together to form a crumble
More extravagant 1 egg hard boiled two plain biscuits 1/4 cup breadcrumbs and 1/2 cup of part boiled vegies (peas carrot corn ECT) 1/8 cup of tonic seed and codliver and wheat germ/ olive oil to help moisten mixture ( usually not much is required just enough so mixture still is crumbly). Mix all ingredients in blender then add oil at end to finish off product. With the last any ingredient can be added or subtracted as required for your birds, this is the soft food mix which i like to use on my Canary fledglings to ween them on to seed.

My egg food mix is:
1 hard boiled egg mashed up with a fork to mix the yolk and white fully.
3 arrowroot biscuits crumbled fine
2 tablespoons Farex dry baby food - original multigrain
1 tablespoon Glucose
1/4 (quarter) teaspoon of multivitamin (I use D3 Vita).

I always make at night after dinner, then mix it all together and leave in the fridge overnight ready to feed to the birds in the morning as early as possible.

When feeding to chicks I only put enough in for a 5 hour period and replace at 12-1pm and 5-6pm. Always throw out any left over, and do not leave with the birds at night.

When the fledglings leave the nest and are eating themself, I put some maw seed on top and it tends to encourage them to pick at it, and gets them onto hard seed.

It is also just as important to provide sprouted seed, which is thoroughly washed out each morning and night. I leave mine on the water heater, and the heat helps the seed to sprout. Make sure that it is clean and has not gone sour before feeding to your birds. I have mine in a square glass jar with my wifes old stockings over the top, held on with a rubber band and that way it can be thoroughly rinsed. Soak the seed in water for 24 hours, washing morning and night. Then drain the seed and put the jar on the water heater on its side with the seed evenly spread out in the jar. Continue to rinse morning and night, until the sprouts are the required length.

Has worked for me for years.
