Just enquiring as to what seeds should be added to a finch mix as I'm going now to mix all my own, last few bags of Canary and finch mix has been quite poor quality and the new supplier doesn't mix any he just has single seeded bags. I was going to put in my mix plain Canary, red panicum, white millet (French), yellow millet and brown millet (jap). Is there anything else that I may use that would be easy to obtain as his seed selection is quite vast. Not looking at oil seeds due to I can get alot of them for free. Can anybody explain me why wheat would be added to Canary and finch mix, I haven't seen any of my birds eat any yet.

What you have said is the base of my dry mix. Minus wheat unless you mean hulled oats? Plus I add in a few extra seeds being rape, linseed a little Niger and rye grass. The rough percentages would be a third canary a third panicums a quarter French a tenth jap and the rest is the other seeds being only about roughly another two percent at most.my chitted mix is different again.

My basic mix is 2 parts red pannicum & 1 part each of white, Jap & plain canary.
