I was reading the Age today and there is a story about toxic chemical accumulation in bird's eggs found in urban areas. The study examined what's in the shells of ibis eggshell from six different localities around Victoria and found birds foraging in urban areas laid eggs with a plethora of toxins presents - some in high doses. While the diet of ibis and finches don't really overlap much there is something to be said about ensuring that the grass you collect from the side of the road hasn't been sprayed or become infected with mould. There may not be a fatal dose in one batch but declining vigor and fertility over generations may be the result of cumulative toxins. Since there is no money for researching these things it's best to be prudent and be doubly sure that food, water, construction and nesting materials etc are clean.
