jusdeb, your right. The wife works for K---t and she gets treated like crap, they must wonder why they turn over alot of staff at companies. But at the end they dont care someone leaves someone new starts and it just keeps going.

I left Big W due to ill health after 9 years . I saw so many good people reduced to tears and not come into work because of the way management treated them .
I was one of the lucky ones and was treated well by the bosses but there weren't many of us . You hit the nail on the head AMCA staff are replaceable .

I still catch up with old work mates and it seems things are getting worse and the only staff they hire are people forced to work under the unemployment ( dole) rules , they dont want to be there and Big W knows there are a hundred others waiting in line for the positions .

Customers are as much to blame because they dont complain about bad service because it is almost the" norm "these days and they still take their $$ back to the offending store .

Hit them where it hurts is the only way we will ever see customer service the way it should be .

Totally agree Deb...and they are slowly but surely taking over...Petrol stations, Liquor Stores...and we seem powerless to stop them....it was that what killed our business...Coles bought the complex and raised rent to $7000 a month plus had to renovate at our cost to their specifications..well we just shut the doors and walked away...lost everything...now starting again

Its how they operate ....Eliminate competition . Gain the monopoly and then get away with high prices and bad service because we have no other options.

I also work for the big companies namely WF at C. Yes I do agree that alot of problems with them namely trying to save dollars mostly by upping prices and decreasing staff, I would personally like to give customer service but due to staff cuts and more work load and average wages I don't have the time or incentive to go beyond my time or capabilities, so in saying this its not always the staff member but sometimes the amount of work load in which has been placed on them I know it doesn't take much to have nice manners but the stress which is put on most of us and especially mangers such as myself it takes alot not to actual let lose on some of the more annoying customers. I do agree that they are taking over to much and having fingers in to many pies this can't end well for us but the government won't step in till after its to late. If you dont like the shops or service best go somewhere where you can get what your after it will save you alot hassel that's what I do

Yep what you save on this weeks special you pay for on other items ...djb my job title was customer service , if I did my job properly the managers rarely needed to be called upon .
Fully understand the demands on management and last thing you need is customers in your ear however if the front end is fully staffed and sales staff handle customers in a courteous manner trivial complaints shouldn't need to go any further .
Back to where this started ...registers are often used by a few people in the course of the day and changeovers can be tricky however there are ways to close the register without causing grief to the customer .
A sign or a staff member to redirect customers , an apology even helping move the trolley for the customer ..all small things that make a difference .

Of course Im talking about your average Mr and Mrs Nice , there's always going to be the "customer from hell " where "the look " can work wonders .

My Mum was telling me today that she heard the owner of an exclusive shop being interviewed on tv saying that due to "over the internet" buying of clothing, people were coming into his shop, trying on the clothes and ordering them from the internet. So he decided he was going to charge to try on the clothes!
I think he has three options, start up an internet side of his business to compete, reduce his prices a bit or shut up shop!
They will be charging just to get in the shopping centres next!

You guys are not powerless, you maybe more to the point unwilling to make a change - rmeber you have the power in your pocket - cash. I honestly cant remember the last time I shopped at Bunnnings, becuae they are gennerally very over priced, service is well not there, and if you can get someone to talk to you they usually scratch thier head and say try isle X in an attempt to get you away from them. I support my local hardware store and Ican honestly say they are 98% o fthe time cheaper then the bog ripoff store. When we built our aviary last year a role of mesh at the big rip off was $400, compared to $130 at the local farmers co-op. By all means shop at bunning, kmart, coles woolies and big w, but shop around for the cost of a few phonbe calls you can save thousands. Having said that I just shop at my local family onwed hardware and not once have I been disapointed with their service so if anyone is in the Burpengary Narangba area go and visitthe boys Simon and Justin, Dad Ron and store hands like Bryan at Millers Hardware - you wont go unnoticed.
Cheers
