I currently have all my birds at my dads, which is ok, and I am planning on moving them to the new avairy we are putting up there. ANYway, I have no birds apart from my princess parrot Franklin, and I miss having finches around.
My Uncle is going to give me a massive cage (or tiny aviary) and it is going to come sit outside. Now, the thing is, the bars are a bit rusted, is there some bird safe paint we can put on it?
AND what kind of finch do you think I should keep? I've been saving up, and I want to spoil myself. So I was wondering on what finch do you think would be best for me to keep? I don't really care how hard they are too breed, but if they are prolific breeders, then awesome! A finch that is ok outside, and it doesn't matter if it is aggressive with other species, because I plan on keeping one pair by themselves. But it would be good if they were hardy, pretty, and relitively non-exspensive!
Thanks! Tegg!
Which finch should I keep?

Red Faced Parrot Finch....or any of the parrot finches......As finches rarely chew on wire you could use any type of paint....exterior plastic paint is good but it does'nt have built in rust preventives like normal enamel paints do...

painteds, red or blue faced PFs ($60 & $70), longtails ($50), gouldians ($depends on mutations - nice normals say $50), javas ($35), saint helenas ($60), chestnuts ($?? we don't get many around here), etc.
are all pretty good

i have one word to say.......... "Gouldins". But go for normal to start off as they are the cheapest. probably ranging from $40 to $80 a pair on average. unless you want a blue which will set you back $300 each.

Haha, I'll take the blue...nah jokes. This little cage won't have any covering on it, so it would be out in the open, but it would still be out of the way of most of the nasty winds. Would a pair of normals go ok in a cage like that if I purcahsed them from someone who usually breeds them in an avairy?
