I went to these wetlands at Atherton-Mareeba region last year. They did release some birds years ago
They have an avairy there that they breed their birds in.
Apparently Mike Fidler been there and been there and recommended a few things to them.
The 5,000 acre Mareeba Tropical Savanna and Wetland is supposed to be a reserve but there are plenty of cattle grazing in there destroying vegitation and seeding grasses. When I was there I only seen flocks of double bars and chestnuts.
The local servo has a picture of a Gouldian on the notice board out the front saying if you see a bird that looks like this please call this number

Jusdeb,
Can you ask your father, if possible, to take a camera with him on his walk and snap a couple of shots of the gouldians and anything else that catches his attention. If they are semi tame a close up picture might be possible.
Life in Port Macquarie is the ultimate Aussie sea change lifestyle.

I have and I will ask him again .
I also want a photo of the resident Dugong that hangs around the pier near them .
