hii have a pair of gouldians currently on 4 eggs. white breasted orange haed normal female and white breasted orange head yellow back male. the eggs are around 5 days old and i want to know if they are fertile. mum is the only one who ever sits on them and thats during the day. dad has air sack mite which he is currently getting treated for. no body sits on the eggs at night which i know can be quite normal but am still a bit worried. any help will be appreciated

i would say no they are no longer any good.Mum should sit on the eggs at night, and duties shared during the day.If you are sure they are not getting sat on during the night,I would discard them,as it is putting unnessary stress on mum.take out one at a time and crack it open.to be sure.

ok only been laying for five days.should be ok then.but would be a hard task to incubate be oneself for the remaining time.I would still take them out myself if she is to be on her own,and put the eggs under somthing else if possible.

the trick to fostering with bengalese is. to have 3 pair of bengalese to 1 pair of goulds, so that at least 1 pair of them will be nest around the same time as the goulds.BUT fostering can come at a price, ie bengalese can carry some nasties that can kill goulds esp any mutations real quick...... pete

mate dont panic give them time. it could be there first time at breeding , how old r they .if there young it can take them a couple of tries at breeding , they will sort themselves out eventually just leave them in there(the eggs) for another week and if you think nothing will happen remove them so they can start again. plus try not to stick your nose in the nest to much it could be disturbing them also.....pete
