Shde cloth over the avairies to block direct sun and misters to cool the birds off, as well as making sure they have a nice place to have a bath and somewhere shady to roost.

Have a look here it explains it better than I could lol viewtopic.php?f=84&t=3297&start=0&hilit=mister" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, you could also just use a soaker hose hung up around the top of the avairy if you can't get the irrigation tubing, I bought one this week for $5.

one thing with misters harv, is that if you have water restictions in your state be careful on how much water you use. A few points to concider are :

You only want to cool the birds off and not flood them out

Placing a soaker hose over the aviary or any sprinkler system up high can heat up so the first lot of water may come out a bit to hot for the birds

Using a good timer on your tap so that the water comes on during the heat of the day a few times

By combining shade cloth and a soaker hose so that the water will run down the shade cloth and cool the aviary similar to evaporative air con in your house....

I personally try to avoid my aviarys during the heat of the day as not to stress the birds out , hope this is of some help......pete.

thanks mate i was just thinking of puting some shade cloth 10cem about my avairy
inside my avairy im going put 2-3 bird baths in , they also have water to drink, and im going to sprey mist over the avairy 2-3 times a day

but i have one big proplem the coved bit of my avairy is tin which heats up heaps , an thats were they like to stay , i have 6 chicks in the nest about to felge , and a mother sitting on egg that should hatch in about 4 days, should i remove the eggs, i think it might take it out of her trying to hatch eggs in this heat she stuggled today and it was only 26 decress,

as for the young babys i hope they will be fine , but if u have any ideas how i can cool down the tin ? would be apreated mate ,

shade cloth will be the cheapest option for now , like you say 10 cm or 15 higher then the cage will be fine , see how that goes , other than making a second roof over the top and having insulation in between .moving perching and nesting areas to lower points will help , but as for current nest of eggs, its your call , I would leave them ,because if it cools down you will kick yourself for removing them....pete

Is this your new aviary Harvey ? If it is Id be waiting a little while till the sun hits its peak summer position and then start adding shade .
Its only getting to 30 so far after a dismal winter so let them enjoy the sun while they can before it gets too hot .

All my birds are sun baking , even the black dogs are still laying in the full sun most of the day .

Plus you want them to be as used to the heat as the cold , this is Australia mate ...extreme weather .

Then agreed with the shade cloth , lots of bowls for bathing in and wet down the floor of the aviary with misters of even by hand .
Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

In SA even with water restrictions you can mist or spray. Its classed as health and safety for animals.
