We are still wondering about the Red beaks on these birds. They are from a Hecks Longtrail, no? The beak isnt a deep red, its more transparent.

We have creamino Hecks longtail here, but never seen a Blackthroat creamino.

Do all offspring come out true to this form?

Could the gene that takes the black out of the feathers also be taking it out of the beak? In the same way that some pieds have white feet? Just me thinking.

No, they seem to be Blackthroats..
The creamino gene seems to turn the beak back to a redish colour? Check that link out i posted above. Note the shape of the tail.

My original point/concern mackstaa was that the red bill (and possibly the colour mutation) may have come from hybridising with Reb Billed (Hecks) Longtails which I saw as a species kept on the website............I am told this is a typical method of transferring a desired mutation from one closely related species to another........The Pearl Longtail has been bred with Black Throats to introduce that mutation into the Black Throat population, for example

Anyway, I too have read that Hawkesbury Finch Club article and not being a genetics expert I can only assume that the red bill, in this mutation, occurs naturally, ie it does not originate via hybridisation.........
