Had a ordinary weekend, we had storms on Friday night - check the birds Sat morning, hen sisken out and about and doublebars behaving funny - so though that something was up.

they were both nesting in the same basket, hanging from the roof. When I got inside baby doublebars probably week old on ground but at least 1.5 m from nest, which made me think they werent thrown out - and nothing in the siskens nest when she had been sitting tight for 2 or so weeks, and reckon they were due to hatch this week.

The only thing I could think of was mice, but the culrpit must be highly acrobatic to be able to climb colourbond walls and jump ( from 2m up) to this basket !

Has been a bad year for mice, continual baiting controls the numbers but hasnt seemed to eradciate them, see to come in patches where there is no evidence of them and then a burrow or something.

Avairy has mouseproof wire, 350mm footings and colourbond contstruction, but just goes to show that they can get in anywhere.

Mice are horrible little things. I would be quite happy to share my home with them if they didn't poop, pee, eat all my/the birds food, and spread disease, but you just cant win!

I was in Melbourne Friday night /saturday morning caught up in the storm I dought if your problem was mice I believe with the verocity of the storm I reckon the parents were frightened. left the nest and .being night not been able to return one by one the young followed looking for warmth. If they were alive the next morning consider yourself lucky
