As the title says I have exciting news my Zebs have hatched some young. It's taken quiet a few tries but we definitely have young ones. Not sure if we have two or three, trying not to disturb them. But earlier today I was going to put my birds in the back yard as its such a lovely day. To my surprise after removing the rest of there cage cover mum hops out of the nest & there is fuzzy wriggly in the nest. So needless to say the birds got the back cover put back on & stayed inside. Later when I gave them a dish of egg biscuit near the nest, I got a picture with my iPhone but can't seem to understand how to post here.
Congratulations
I don't care what people say, I always get a kick when a bird hatches, zebra finch or orange breast!! shame the latter didn't survive till fledging though
Looking forward to the fledgling pictures!!!
that's the price for joining the forum: no fees, just pictures and lots
Thank you I am so excited like a little kid at Christmas. I so want to keep looking & bothering the new parents. But I know for there survival I need to keep clear for a spell, the new seed dish with egg biscuit is about all the disturbance they can handle.
Seeing this is there first young I hope they realize & know how to feed them. As it took them many tries just to sit on the nest properly.
This morning I had a real scare found one of the chicks out of the nest on the bottom of the cage. Compared to a Zeb chick thats a hell of a fall to take. I had a hard time picking up the chick, but after several careful tries we got the chick back in the nest. Where mum shortly returned & to what I could make out began feeding the young.
Now this evening when I tried to look in the nest my hen is being very determined to keep the chicks from my sight. So I have no clue to what is going on. Hopefully they are doing well ? Also the male is so jumpy.
Looks like my pair are being good parents. The little peak they gave me into there nest there was wriggling by the young. Still cant tell how many babies we have, but day three & we still have movement is a good sign.
