Hi SamDavis
I was asking about the pic because i would like to buy the 5 young birds in the picture when they are independant from their parents.
I'm hoping you would like to sell them and don't mind freighting them to Melbourne, While I can get Longtails in Melbourne yours would be guaranteed unrelated and I have just had a similar nest of 5 young which have just become independant of their parents. I intend to DNA sex the whole lot and pair up in individual avairies. let me know if you are willing to sell them and price
Regards Craig Gardner

Hi Craig,
I also have plenty of other longtails for sale which are a bit older than those 5 that recently fledged (all would be 6 months or younger). I can send a mix from different parents. I usually sell them for $50 a pair. In NSW longtails are licensed so would require an export permit at my end ($30 plus 2 week or so wait). I don't think you need any paperwork for them in Vic? I've got a variety of other species too, so given the freight cost, are there any others you're after?

I particularly want them from pairs that have had large nests and don't bring them out early. Also I find them the younger the better whenever I buy black beaked immatures they do so much better, I think they adapt to new conditions better when younger.
What other species do you have? I could be tempted but really I wanna improve my Longtails at the moment.

Sam, import licence in Vic is still required even though they're not on the licence. It's free down here though.
Shark I have just imported several birds from NSW to broaden my bloodlines, keep in touch if you like

Thanks for info, but I guess that's Shark's problem!natamambo wrote:Sam, import licence in Vic is still required even though they're not on the licence. It's free down here though.
Shark - You're welcome to all five of them if you want. That clutch actually fledged 6, but one was a runt who sat on the floor for a day or so and didn't make it. The other pair in this aviary recently fledged 5 also. Although I'd like to think it's genetics that determines clutch size and maturity of fledglings I suspect it has more to do with livefood. I've only just in the last few months fed livefood (termites and maggots) to this aviary due to other species. Prior to this 3 (and occasionally 4) was typical from these longtails.
At the moment I've got some young diamonds, painteds, cordons, red stars, maskeds, gouldians and of course longtails. Many of these have coloured, others still colouring. If you like big clutches (don't we all!) the parents of the painteds have been fledging 4 young continuously rain, hail or shine for about 4 years. Also some ruddies and OBs just fledged and there's a few other odds and ends.

thanks Natamambo I will keep in touch.
Thanks for the offer of the others Sam but I'd better look after the budget so close to Christmas. The 5 Longtails plus 1 from the other pair will be enough. (so 3 pairs) please ring the odd one.
Perhaps we should (pm) our details so that we can get the ball rolling.
If you don't have access to a freight box I can send you in the post what I use.
Also what would be a suitable day for you to send them? Early AM I think is best.
What is the total cost? I can put it into an account you nominate.
Thanks
