Lorikeet weaning please help

Okies Pip the Purple Crown wants to take chunks out of my fingers at feed time so I guess its weaning time .

Ive been treating him/her much the same as other parrots I hand rear in regards to weaning but Im not sure its the right way for a Lorikeet .

Any handrearers with Lorikeet knowledge out there to give me some hints please ???

Oh and is laying on ones back kicking like a cockroach while shredding tissues normal PC behaviour ?
Is hanging upside down after a big feed going to cause a problem with asphyxiation ?

Seriously folks Im over my head with this little bugger . :roll: :D

Oh Deb, I have found lorikeets the easiest birds to wean. Even straight from the nest you can dip their beak into wet mix, they get a taste and they are weaned! Their natural curiosity leads them to discover any fruit etc. that is left for them. How old is the PC?

Not sure as I didnt know it was even in the nest , it was so tiny and hidden under its siblings .
I took him out of the nestbox on the 16 oct and he was still a fluffy ..no pin feathers .

He attempts Paw Paw and grapes , apple baby food and has a go at nectar and I just noticed little beak marks in the dry food bowl .
Im giving 3 feeds a day with the syringe x 10 mls ...2 of dry food + fennel tea + baby food fruit and then 1 feed of wet mix and baby fruit .

Usually with the Parrots they go off food at weaning/flying time but Pip is a little pig and starting to fly ( well falling with style ) :D

They'll fly long before they're weaned. If it's starting to eat dry, time to put it on to one feed of wet in the evening, & morning feeds it can eat it's own wet from a dish, & cut out the lunch time altogether.

Okies , cant take the needle like bites anymore when its hungry OUCH .

Morning and night it is . Gave the wet mix in a bowl today , resulted in Pip swimming in sugary nectar , its a fool :lol:

Like VR & Tint said........not that I have done many, but the ones I've H/Raised seem to wean easy

Upside down..........on their back......shredding and biting stuff is all pretty normal Lori behaviour :crazy: ......My PCs do a hilarious rapid beak tapping routine with pin-sized pupils.....I was thinking of calling a Priest to perform an Exorcism :o

The grand kids call Pip Mumble after the penguin in the Happy Feet movie ..
Dont know if its a temper tantrum or excitement but its way funny .

Other half keeps rushing in to the cage to help Pip , he thinks the bird is stuck on its back or hurt lol ..its a fool ( the bird )
