Yes you can name anything that will assist members with bargains. As long as they do not advertise themselves!!!avishoot wrote:Australian niger is now available from a well known supplier in sydney ( admin am i allowed to give name of business)?

Has anyone on AFF managed to grow this plant?.....and if so, can the flowers (seed heads) be fed green to our birds?

Yep grown it from seed suppleid by Terese and Barry at Elenbee.
Looks like a strawflower with copious yellow (I think!!) flowers.............fed it to all and sundry before some tool of a doctor from Ag science confiscated it as a noxious weed!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, I questioned his parentage!!!
I hid it far better the next time!!!!
But all birds loved it especially the cup-nesters.........our growing season here aint long so I'd suggest you'd still need to put it in early growing season.
I germinate it in a hot house and then transplant it.....some years it actually heads if we have enough warmth............!!!

Does Tasmania have an active "Government Moron Import Program" ???? I'm sure they'd ban clouds if they could.

Where was I....niger.................have no idea my friend I'd ask someone at a nursery about your local growing conditions but I'm guessing you'd still have plenty of time to chuck a batch in if you are in NSW...................good luck!!!
Col Pepper grew it at Qurindi without mishap if that helps as his was the first "real" non-pakistani stuff I ever saw.
Great family the Peppers.

It'll grow fine & flower in any warm months in NSW. Now is perfect. Best fed as soon as the petals drop. Fed & watered well will get to about 2m high & plenty of flowers. Likes full sun for best flowering.
